ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS

70% of our animals are sheltered through national entities and animal protection associations. Many were rescued and had no place to go.

Education, Science and Conservation

Contact with animals is so strong and striking that it enhances a faster learning ability and a more immediate environmental awareness. Zoos are amazing educational tools!

Millions of people visit zoos all over the world, a few thousands visit Krazy World Zoo. We propose to involve people in the natural world and its wildlife, educating and creating awareness of its fragility and for current and relevant environmental problems.

Every year Krazy World Zoo improves animal welfare conditions, promoting several ways of environment enrichment and rehabilitating habitats. Education has also been strongly valued through workshops in nature conservation.

From the rehabilitation of natural ecosystems inside the park, to the eradication of invasive plant species, using them as a resource, Krazy World Zoo promotes environmental education and biodiversity preservation.

The zoo is currently in the process of being admitted to the Iberia of Zoos and Aquariums (AIZA), continuing its work as a zoological entity. Cooperating with environmental entities and complementing their work, the zoo receives confiscated specimens, abandoned and irrecoverable, including them in their zoological collection, educating and alerting visitors to good environmental practices and for an appropriate choice of their pet.

KWAZ also supports national projects like Life Trachemys, “Charcos com Vida” (Ponds with life) and “Espécies Invasoras em Portugal” (Invasive Portuguese Species), cooperating with official entities like ICNF, Porto university (CIBIO), Coimbra university (CEF), the Politechnic Institute of Coimbra (ESAC) and rehabilitation centers like RIAS in Olhão. When biodiversity loss is a growing reality, KWAZ’s work has proved to be an asset in terms of conservation and investigation, safeguarding species like the European pond turtle Emys orbicularis or the Natterjack toad Epidalea calamita.

We will continue our work in this crazy world, making a difference every day in every person who visits us!
